the lyndon

a 1954 post-war house re-imagined for a young couple.  the goal was to turn the house’s back to the street to greet the canyon.  The house became a dialog between closed volumes (closets, bathrooms) and open ones (living, kitchen, bedrooms) to make the rooms connect to the canyon.  to save significant money, the team opted to avoid the replacing the roof.  this challenge of demolishing the interior of a house while supporting the roof is no simple problem.  We designed a center wall to support the existing roof structure and create a vaulted ceiling facing the canyon.
